Nana's Cookies

From my Nana

For the batter

For fillings and icing

Preheat oven to 350℉.

Sift together flour, sugar, a pinch of salt, and baking powder.

Cut in softened butter.

Form a well in the batter, add eggs and extracts, mix and kneed until dough is shiny and smooth. Add milk / flour as needed.

For cherry cookies: form a walnut sized ball of dough around a maraschino cherry.

For prune or apricot cookies: roll out dough into a 5×10 inch sheet. blend apricots or prunes in a food processor with cinnamon and sugar, spread filling on the center third of the dough, and fold the other thirds over.

Bake at 350℉ for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the cookie.

Ice with mixture of powered sugar, milk, and either lemon extract or juice from the jar of cherries.
